Teaching for Understanding
It isnt just students learning new things at MNW elementary! The MNW elementary staff is also re-evaluating the way we look at education by examening the most effective ways of teaching and then enhancing that teaching with some very powerful technology. Hopefully, this blog will be an effective way to learn more about MNW and our priorities. Please leave your mark along the way.
Ms. Davis,
ReplyDeleteWhere do you start? Is the student-centered (vs. adult-centered) the place to begin? Will all the other characteristics come along if this is the attitude of all educators?
Thanks, Jeff, for asking. Its a great question. In my mind, it seems that student-centered is ingrained in the other four characteristics so much that by looking at this first one intensely, we really provide the springboard for looking at Teaching for Understanding, etc. On the other hand how much time is it better to look at all five at one time - pros and cons for sure. I guess it is just important to remain "plugged in" to our faculty and to our buildings to know when it is time to "move on".
