Alan November Addressing K-6 Staff October 6

The faculty attended a workshop on October 6 dealing with embedding technology daily into our classes. Three of the main concepts that our teachers explored were:

  • November's work with corporations and military all over the world has led him and others to believe that the most important characteristic that students must possess as they begin their careers is empathy. Our students will not be able to succeed in a global economy unless they understand the lives, customs and people of the world.
  • Teachers have to be learning constantly.  Networks such as Twitter can bring a flood of new information from all over the world that will help educators keep up with the world that our students live in every day. Unless we are excited and passionate about the possibilities of technology in our classrooms, it will be difficult for our students to be valuable contributors to a future society.
  • Students learn best when "kids are teaching kids."  Tools such as blogs, wikiis, streaming, etc. where students have charge of their learning and teachers are facilitators in the classroom and not the focus are the ways to bring students to be creative problem solvers that the future civilizations will need.
